The first piece I read by Joan Didion was The Year of Magical Thinking, the story of the aftermath of her husbands sudden death (fantastic, I've read it 3 times and have 2 copies if you want one). The second was The White Album which I too loved. So when I saw We Tell Ourselves Stories in Order To Live in Brookline Booksmith's remainder bin I jumped for it and have been reading it this past week.
This tomeincludes the full content of her first seven volumes of nonfiction: Slouching Towards Bethlehem, The White Album, Salvador, Miami, After Henry, Political Fictions, and Where I Was From. Not only is the writing great but the cover is beautiful - something that always gets me.

I really like Joan Didion too, so I'll have to check this out. It's funny how much the cover of a book effects my liking of it...so much for that old saying about judging a book by it's cover!
