Better than...

um, I LOVE soup, I may even eat too much of it. Chicken and rice is my go to favorite. But eating it out of a can totally grosses me out, and this leads to a lot of cooking on my part. My mother-in-law the chef introduced me to Better Than Bouillon. I'm just putting it out there that this stuff rocks. Compact, lasts for a long time and super flavorful (and not weird fake chickeness about it). I can't believe how big their product line is... so many more soups to make.
A spot (or two) of tea
How beautiful is this Sorapot by Joey Roth? I'm not a tea drinker, but if I had one of these I would be. Available at Supermarket.

Oooooh... Austin Cake!

We are lucky that Sweet Bea Cakes is one of our design clients, because we get to look at alllll those beautiful cake photos when we put them on their site. Recently, Sharon of Sweet Bea Cakes made a cake inspired by our Austin, Texas print. How cool (and delicious I'm sure) is this. Sharon is a very, very talented lady. Check out her site here.

Cozy Coffee Cuffs by Megan Auman
There is a particularly good bakery right down the street from me (dangerous) and they have particularly scalding decaf coffee. No cardboard cozy is protecting you here. Megan Auman's felt cuffs may be the perfect solution.

Buy this and eat it : Les Moulins Mahjoub M’hamsa Couscous
I'm very lucky to have a mother-in-law that is an AMAZING cook. So when she says that something is good and we should buy it, we always jump on it. Les Moulins Mahjoub M’hamsa Couscous is so delicious that you will want to eat the whole jar. You too can indulge by ordering it from the DELICIOUS Woodstock Farmers Market where Lisa hones her skills. When you are there get the Vermont Hills Teriakyi sauce. You'll thank me.

Minty Fresh
I am an altoids-aholic. The green ones are my favorites. When visiting my in-laws this weekend I tried one of the Newman's Own wintergreen mints and it is my new favorite. The Wintergreen ingredients are: Organic Sugar, Gum Arabic, Natural Flavor, Organic Corn Syrup, Rice Bran Extract. Delicious. Plus they come in a very nice tin and aren't "harshly" refreshing, as my altoids can sometimes be.

Edesse Designs
Who doesn't need a "Piece of Meat" sketchbook? Or how about a 2009 Doughnut desk calendar? (there is a doughnut sketchbook too. I may need both since I developed quite the doughnut obsession since watching Twin Peaks recently.) Check out Edesse Designs shop here.

Tastebook
I stumbled on this somewhere and now I'm quite excited about it. Tastebook let's you take all your favorite personal and online recipes and put them in to a nicely designed book that you can keep on adding to as time goes on. Plus it is affordable. I'm the queen of having bookmarked Gourmets and Saveurs in the kitchen, and printed pagaes from Epicurious and other places. I've tried thinking about how to organize them and this seems perfect. Check it out at tastebook.com

Coffee Cup Jewels
As I sit here and sip out of my disposable Starbucks cup I think... what if my bracelet could double as a cup wrapper (you know that piece of cardboard that prevents you from scoarching your fingers?)... Bentwood by Contexture Design has it all figured out. Very handy and green.

Delight-fully Eco
I love delight.com, great branding, great packaging and great products. I love how many well designed "green goods" they carry. I just picked up one of these Klean Kanteens to curb my bottle water habit and make full use of my Brita.
I love my bags from Envirosaxs, (I always get complemented on them) you can fill them to the brim with all your shopping goods. At first Sasso thought they were too girly but he has really taken to them too. They've made great beach bags over the summer too.
I have my eye on this reusable coffee mug. I feel guilty EVERY time I get a cup from Starbucks.
Check out delight.com here.

Meet The Middletons

The Middletons plate set designed by Marco Cibola at Poketo. The melamine plates are designed on the thought that plates have personalities too. Each one designed as a member of the Middleton family (Doug, Janet, Claire & Perry). Bring them home here.

Desert Dessert

Sasso has been to Burning Man many times. If I could ride in one of these cupcakes, I might go too. Check out a video by BoingBoing about the cupcakes here and some info about these electric rides here. Photo via flickr by pyramis.

Kahla Cumulus Zwiebelle

Here is another beauty I put on our registry, from Lekker of course. The Cumulus Zweibelle set from Kahla. It is even more beautiful in person, the navy blue with hints of gold. Now if only I had a dinning room....

Hold My Knives for Me

I put this guy on our wedding registry at Lekker. (a fabulous home store in Boston's South End). The Mikoto knife block that is filled with bamboo sticks so they knives sit safely in the box. More beautiful than your ordinary knife block and safer than those magnet strips (we've had a great knife break it's tip falling from one of those). Plus it comes in my favorite color, red.

David Lance Goines

The best thing about having a food writer for a future sister in law? Sweet restaurants (besides that she is a lovely person of course). JBatt took us to Chez Panisee and needless to say it was tasty and fabulous.

There I feel in love with the work of David Lance Goines, you will see his illustrations grace the cover of Chez Panisse's cookbooks and many posters for the restaurant.
Here are a few of the posters. Visit David's site at www.goines.net.

Pop Pop Fizz Fizz

Clockwise from top right: colored bottles at Jayson Home + Garden, vintage bottle at Three Potato Four, vintage bottle set, bottle pendant lamps at Sundance.
I am a big fan of seltzer water but those bottles add up. I always feel guilty looking at those empty guys laying in my recycling bin. I started researching making seltzer at home (which is incredibly easy, see here) but stumbled upon all these vintage bottles. So pretty.
