Alpha

The MoMa has a new show up called Tangled Alphabets: the work of Leon Ferrari and Mira Schendel . It's up April 5 - June 15. If you can't make it to NYC to check it out they have a very nice site for the exhibit, it even let's you zero in on a piece and magnify certain parts to check it out up close. Jewelry To-Go

Oh it's been a while. See I left the country for a bit and got married. It was awesome, now I'm home again. So I would have loved to have had this little guy with me. A travel jewelry box from Delight.com that you can HANG earrings in so they don't get all knotted (I wear a lot of long earrings). Maybe if I was billing more than 3 hours a day I'd whip out my wallet for one of these. Stupid recession.

Happy Dia de los Muertos!

Go eat some candy skulls, listen to some tunes and have a little tequila while remembering your loved ones. If you are around Boston, the Forest Hills Cemetery has a Day of the Dead celebration (which we'll be attending... even though it is right down the street from it we always miss it). Check it out here. Above is our Mexico City print inspired by those candy skulls and bright paper flowers.

Old Maps

I love maps, and I really love old maps. Wardmaps.com has old maps for every place you could think of (they have the map for the small NH town, Hinsdale, that my brother and sister live in in NH, so this proves they must have everything). I of course loved the Boston ones, but there are ones for every country and the world. Check it out at wardmaps.com

A few shows

I just may be going to New York this weekend (do I splurge on the Acela or risk it on the Chinatown bus... tough choice) and here are a few shows I've kept my eye on. I hope to be able to see at least one! Above is Drawing Babar: Early Drafts and Watercolors at the Morgan Library & Museum. I (as most) loved Babar as a child, it would be great to see where he came from.



Kirchner and the Berlin Street at the MoMA is only up til November 10 and it is one I don't want to miss. I haven't been to the MoMA since it moved (I know...) so this may be at the top of the list.



They are also holding Van Gogh and the Colors of the Night, and I'd want to see that just to see these colors in person.

A New Dawn

A new dawn - trailer - H3O films via Zapiks

This weekend I got to watch our dear friend Anthony's film "A New Dawn", a great ski film - different from all the other ones I've ever watched. I loved the music and the lighting and of course the tricks (completed ones and failures). The whole thing had this sense of nostalgia that anyone has for past epic trips and experiences. Earplugs. Seriously.

This post is dedicated to my neighbors (and their dogs and their sleeping babies). Here is the scene: a VERY quite neighborhood in Boston, dead end street, bordered by a huge park. Car alarm going on and off for about an hour and a half. Woman desperately pushing every combination of button on her key fob. Shooing away the police man assuring him the garage is on the phone. Taking calls from neighbors and apologizing. Trying not to break down in frustration tears. Um... that was my afternoon yesterday. Our car is now sitting at the VW garage far, far away, silent I'm sure.
I'm sure everyone would have wanted these earplugs yesterday. Kind of beautiful, actually. This website sells all sorts of ear plugs and they have trial packs. I am a big fan of earplugs and always bring them when I travel (you never know where you'll end up sleeping). Check out the plugs here.

The Coppalas' Journeys

I love this Annie Leibovitz photo of Francis and Sophia Coppola, it makes me think of my dad. The Louis Vuitton site has a cool journey photo tour with Sophia's Marrakech and Francis' San Francisco. Check it out here.

Susy Pilgrim Waters

I know Susy Pilgrim Waters through the Boston Design Salon, but I wasn't all that familiar with her work until a few minutes ago. I adore artwork about travel: posters, maps and the like... I was excited to see Susy's travel series on her site.



See Susy's new work for yourself, she is having an opening September 10, 6pm - 9pm, at Stel on Newbury Street in Boston.

Brussels' Flower Carpet

Every two years the centre of Brussels is carpeted in flowers, this year it is with 800,000 begonias in the intricate pattern of a late French design. Love Anna James

These side tables, Romeo and Juliet, were inspired by Anna James' visits to the infamous Juliet's house in Verona, Italy.
From Anna's site: "She is totally captivated by the graffiti covering the walls at the archway entrance, all of it being declarations of love by visiting lovers, of all ages, from all over the world.
Anna devised a process to replicate the walls on furniture, by taking a series of digital images, which she then transposed onto her carefully prepared period pieces." www.loveannajames.com

A Little Kirchner

When I was once an art history major I took a great great great German Expressionism class. I totally loved it. I mean look at those colors. Mmmmmm..... Now let's see if I can get myself to NYC to catch this new Kirchner exhibit at the MoMA. "Kirchner and the Berlin Street" is up now through November 10.
